Craft House of Drabeši Manor

Programmes:
Introduction to the Craft House, interactive lecture about ancient musical instruments, many of which are made there. Duration about 90 minutes.

Available workshops – weaving, Latvian traditional instruments, textile mosaic, felting, ceramics, knitting ornaments from Latvian mittens, traditional straw Christmas decoration puzurs. Each workshop can take no more than 10 persons, bigger groups can be divided into several workshops. Programmes for each group  are planned individually according to the available time, number of persons and other preferences. Workshops can last from a couple of hours to several days, accommodation and catering is available.

Performance or Latvian traditional games and dances with the local folk group of Drabešu Manor.

Description:
The Craft House is located at Drabeši Manor which dates back to the 19th century. Regular workshops including weaving on looms, knitting, felting, ceramics, music instrument making and playing take place here. Various events representing traditional culture, Latvian lifestyle, crafts and music are organized.

Apart from regular weekly workshops various day-long workshops (especially Latvian musical instrument making), are organized and those interested can sign up. The Latvian instrument, the kokle, can be made and basic playing principles can be learned. Overnight stay and catering is available at the school’s hostel next door.
